$0 dollar health insurance policies refer to a health insurance plan with a $0 premium. Premiums are the monthly fees you pay to your insurance company to maintain coverage.

In the case of the Affordable Care Act, the federal government pays private insurance companies that are part of the Affordable Care Act Marketplace a fee. Thses insurance companies then set up agreements with local hospitals and/or healthcare providers, in an effort to make medical expenses more affordable for you.

Depending on the plan you are eligible for, and what is available in your state, your plan may also cover extra services like hearing, vision, dental, prescription drugs and other wellness programs.
